Home charging, explained simply.
Do I need a home EV charger?
Not always. If you drive modest distances and can plug in overnight, a standard power point can be enough for some households. A dedicated charger becomes worthwhile when you drive more, want faster overnight top-ups, or want to charge from solar.
Can I just use a normal power point?
Many EVs come with a portable cable for a standard socket, which adds a small amount of range per hour. Whether that's suitable — and whether the circuit is up to it — should be assessed by a licensed electrician.
What's the difference between 7kW and 11kW charging?
It's mostly about how much power your home supply can deliver and what your car can accept. For most households, 7kW provides more than enough overnight charging to replace normal daily driving. The right setup depends on the vehicle, property and electrical supply. 11kW needs three-phase supply and a car that supports it.
Can I charge from solar?
Yes — some chargers can prioritise excess solar. Whether that makes sense depends on your system size, your tariff and when the car is home during the day.
What if I live in an apartment?
It's usually possible, but it involves the building and often owners' corporation approval. We'll be straight with you about what's realistic for your building before you spend anything.
Who installs the charger?
An appropriate licensed installation partner. WEEV isn't an electrical contractor and doesn't perform installation work — all installations are assessed and completed by licensed electricians.
